Face behind MeOhMy
Hi... I'm Megan, founder, biz head and flower creator of MeOhMy Flowers. My flower path walk started in 2005 when my father-in-law passed. The quote “life’s short and tomorrow’s not promised” made so much sense. I enrolled in TAFE and my career changing flower training began.
Over the following 9 years, I became a qualified floral designer and gained experience in both retail and event work... especially weddings.
Life was crazy but in 2014 MeOhMy was born from the desire to work to live, not live to work. My daydream to be my own boss and run a small business finally become real and the switch also led to more adventures with my family,
What's with the name... MeOhMy?
To be honest I don't have a fabulous story behind the name 'MeOhMy' but before registering the business, I ran it by the family and everyone agreed it was good. It wasn't until we were sorting out the email, that Steven points out it looked like "meow" and so the reason why I always write it with alternating capital letters... MeOhMy! Anyways, lucky I've always loved cats!
Getting personal
I've been married to Steven for 30 years, Mum (and MIL) to Caitlen, Lucy and Mitch and most importantly (haha), Mimi to Theodore Rex.
In what seems like a lifetime ago, my working days started in a research laboratory as a trainee chemist. I have a science degree and this is probably where my 'enthusiasm' for spreadsheets and organisation stems.
On the flip side, I’ve always enjoyed being creative and from primary school wanted to be an architect. I love pansies and sweet peas, reminders of my Grandads’ gardens. My all time favourite colour is green and my latest obsession is jumpsuits... floral, plain, denim, embroidered you name it... LOVE IT!
Dream Living
It's been close to 20 years in the flower world and never did I ever imagine... living and loving flowers is the best!
There are many things I love about floristry. The flower market being one! Normally I am not a morning person, but I'm always excited about each and every flower market run and it's not unusual for me to go even if I don't have a reason.
I've met so many gorgeous people through flowers. When I started MeOhMy, I hadn't considered the isolation of a small business. I love a chat so to have these humans in my life is amazing!
The BTS of running a business is continual BUT rewarding. From mood boards, checklists and the faithful spreadsheet, the methodical nature and organisational skills from my science days have served me well in the flower biz.
BUT probably the thing to love most... it's not just about the flowers! It's about the moments they inspire and the memories they create. It is such a privilege to create blooms for so many loved up couples!
Besides flowers
When I'm not flowering, my perfect day is going on a dirt road adventure. Trees over ocean, somewhere with no service, a river, cosy campsite, warn fire, a roast, sweet treat and maybe a gin or two.
If I'm not camping you'll often find me scouring secondhand stores for crystal pieces to add to my collection and quirky vases that absolutely need a new home.
