My flower journey kicked off in 2005 after a big family loss. You know the saying “life’s short and tomorrow’s not promised”? That really hit home for me, so I decided to do something about it. I signed up for TAFE, and that’s where my flower adventure began.
Fast forward 9 years, and I became a qualified floral designer, working in both retail and event floristry, with weddings being my absolute fave. It was a busy ride, but in 2014, MeOhMy Flowers was born. That’s when I decided I wanted to work to live, not live to work. My dream of being my own boss came true, and it opened up a whole new world of adventures with my family.
Honestly, I don't have some fabulous backstory. I ran it by the family, and they all liked it. Then, while sorting out the email, Steven pointed out it looked like “meow,” and that’s when I started writing it with alternating capital letters. So, MeOhMy! And yeah, I’ve always been a cat person, so it works!
I’ve been married to Steven for over 30 years and I’m mum (and MIL) to Caitlen, Lucy, and Mitch. Most importantly (haha), I’m Mimi to Theodore Rex and Henry Jax.
Before flowers, I worked as a trainee chemist in a research lab. Yep, I have a science degree, so my love for spreadsheets and organisation probably comes from there. But I’ve always had a creative side too. I wanted to be an architect when I was younger. I love pansies and sweet peas because they remind me of my Grandad’s gardens. My favourite colour is green, and I’m totally obsessed with jumpsuits—floral, denim, embroidered... I’ll take them all!
It’s been over 20 years in the flower world, and I honestly never imagined I’d be living and breathing flowers this much!
There’s so much I love about floristry, but the flower market is definitely up there. I’m not a morning person, but there’s something so exciting about those early morning trips. I’ll go even when I don’t need flowers—just because, why not?
The best part about running MeOhMy has been the amazing people I’ve met along the way. When I first started, I didn’t realise how isolated a small business could feel, so it’s been awesome connecting with so many wonderful people through flowers.
The behind-the-scenes work never stops (hello spreadsheets!), but it’s part of the fun. My science background definitely comes in handy with the organisation side of things. But what I love most? It’s not just about the flowers—it’s about the moments and the memories they create. It’s such a privilege to help couples celebrate their love with blooms.
When I’m not surrounded by flowers, you’ll probably find me on a dirt road adventure, somewhere with trees, a river, and no phone service. A cosy campsite, a warm fire, a roast dinner, sweet treats, and maybe a gin or two.
If I’m not camping, I’m hunting for quirky vases and crystal pieces in secondhand stores that just need a new home.
Love forever, Flowers always.
Megan.
